Facts About Celebrex

Celebrex doubled and tripled the number of heart attacks, strokes and death in a cancer prevention study. Patients who took 400 mg and 800 mg of Celebrex a day had at least 2.5 more heart attacks, heart deaths and strokes as those who didn't take the drug. In most cases, the drug manufacturer and distributor can be held responsible for any injuries and deaths suffered by patients.

Because of these findings, the National Cancer Institute cancelled the Celebrex study. Pfizer, the Celebrex manufacturer, has kept the drug on the market.

Celebrex is a COX-2 inhibitor. It's a new, powerful drug the FDA has approved for:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis in adults
  • Management of acute pain
  • Treatment of menstrual pain
  • Reducing the number of colon and rectum growths

COX-2 inhibitors like Celebrex and its cousins, Arcoxia, Bextra, and Vioxx, were thought to be safer for patients suffering from arthritis and sharp pains. But Vioxx was pulled off the market because of the increased chance for heart attacks. While Celebrex has not been pulled, it is still dangerous.

Stop taking Celebrex if you have:

  • Burning stomach pain
  • Black bowel movements that look like tar
  • Vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds

Celebrex may lead to kidney disease.

Contact an experienced Celebrex attorney near you if you have taken Celebrex and have gotten sick. The law may limit the time you have to file a claim in court.
